For chronic, recurrent or complicated urinary tract infection, treatment should be 1/2 tablet 4 times / day, for 2 weeks
renal impairment: daily dose shoud not exceed 3 gm
Elderly patients receiving intermittent dialysis should be given an additional 1/2 tablet Gramocef after each dialysis. (total dosage of up to 1 tablet on that day)
Hypersensitivity to Cephalosporins& penicillins
Gastrointestinal symptoms e.g. nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea
Hypersensitivity reactions e.g. rash, urticaria, angioedema
Clinical trials showed that treatment with high doses of cephalosporins and aminoglycosides or potent diuretics may adversely affect renal function, but with Gramocef given in the recommended dosage levels, no such effect happens
Gramocef is usually well tolerated, nevertheless, as any other broad- spectrum antibiotic, prolonged use may result in growth of candida which may require interruption of treatment
In patient with poor renal function, Gramocef dosage should be suitably reduced
Although Gramocef did not show any teratogenic effect, it would be wise to be causious in pregnant women during early months and also in lactating women
